SMRP is a nonprofit professional society formed by practitioners, with a mission to serve leaders and advancing Reliability and Physical Asset Management. We provide value for individual practitioners as well as companies practicing and sustaining Maintenance and Reliability (M&R) best practices. With nearly 3,000 certificants and nearly 3,800 members worldwide, our community is dedicated to provide you benefits such as international affiliations, domestic public and private partnerships, education opportunities, M&R Body of Knowledge resources, ANSI accredited certifications and many local and global networking events.Officers & StaffHow can I get more out of SMRP? The best way to reap the benefits of your SMRP membership is to work for the organization as a volunteer. Volunteers usually start out by joining a committee associated with one of the four strategic goals. As a member of a committee you could be asked to work on such areas as investigating ideas and researching information for projects, organizing events, developing questions for the CMRP exam, or benchmarking new approaches on behalf of the SMRP membership. While doing so, you will meet many interesting people from a tremendous cross-section of industries having different work experience and backgrounds. You will inevitably meet some of the best people in the M&R business; what a great way to enhance your knowledge about maintenance and reliability! Depending on your time and inclination, you could be asked to head up specific project initiatives for the committee. If you are enjoying your committee work and can support it consistently, you could be asked to become the vice chair and subsequently committee chair. Committees make progress towards goals with a combination of conference calls and other web assisted meetings, so the time and travel requirements consist of attending 2-3 Executive meetings per year. (which you had already intended to do when you joined SMRP anyway!) If you are enjoying your committee work and can support it consistently to some degree, especially as a chairperson, you could then be considered for a role as the Director of the strategic initiative your committee falls under. Directors and Committee Chairs are usually the source of candidates for the vital Officer roles that often lead to becoming the Chairman of SMRP. At that point the obligations placed on the individual and his company are more significant, requiring the following:
What you achieve as an Officer will be somewhat dictated by how well you engage others in the goals of SMRP. Officers are encouraged to think past their tenure and beyond their experience to further the mission of SMRP in a way that brings exceptional value to the membership. While the work is somewhat greater, so too are the rewards! In a society of practitioners for practitioners, who is eligible to become an Officer or Director of SMRP? "Such regular or 'standing' committees, councils, and task forces, and ad committees as may be determined from time to time by the Chair of the Board shall be appointed from the Society membership, and from invited non-members, and organized in order to carry out the business of the Society."
