SMRP Foundation, est. 2009

We are proud to share our Foundation’s Mission:
To cultivate the development of Maintenance and Reliability (M&R) professionals and advance the M&R body of knowledge through education, research and resource expansion.

Note that we also serve the SMRP Mission:
To develop and promote leadership in Reliability and Physical Asset Management.

In 2009 SMRP reorganized in a 501(c)3 Foundation and 501(c)6 to broaden its ability to serve the greater Maintenance and Reliability professional community. With that reorganization, a Foundation was established, as whose mission is to develop M&R professionals and advance the M&R body of knowledge.

The original concept was to cultivate aspiring M&R professionals by advancing the development of the M & R industry body of knowledge, education, research and financial support.

We are looking to enhance the current scholarship program which helps prepare students and young professionals for a career in Maintenance and Reliability.

We seek to expand resources to support the development of the M&R Body of Knowledge which includes industry benchmarking studies, industry metrics, educational compendiums; global harmonization of M&R Best Practices and partnership with international M&R professional organizations.

We will advance our outreach efforts towards partnerships and alliances with global public and private entities for advancing the profession.

We will invest in industry research projects that advance the understanding of the M&R profession and technologies.

The key areas of focus for us to serve our Foundation mission include:
1. Education:
To undertake educational programs which cultivate the use and practice of maintenance and reliability principles.
2. Research:
To acquire, preserve and make available for use to individuals, institutions, governmental agencies and industrial concerns, books, reports, studies, memoranda, manuscripts, thesis, research papers and media which promote the field of maintenance and reliability
-To sponsor research projects to explore methods, develop the body of knowledge and standards, and other tools for advancing the profession and study of maintenance and reliability
3. Grants:
To aid and assist organizations and educational institutions in promoting the interest of maintenance and reliability as a field of study
-To promote and seek partnerships including grants or gifts by will, trust or otherwise.
4. Scholarships:
To develop the capabilities of students and young professionals, for eventual service in maintenance and reliability, by providing scholarships or fellowships at the undergraduate and graduate level.

The commitment of the SMRP Foundation Trustees is to create a valuable pool of resources for advancing the greater mission of the Society with our competencies. A strategic plan, policies and procedures and then fiscally sounds business plans are all in development for the coming fiscal year 2010-2011.

The most important core competency of our Society is our Body of Knowledge. The Body of Knowledge work is progressing to serve as a global authority on the maintenance and reliability knowledge for best asset management practices through benchmarking, and to identify and define asset management best practice metrics.

The Foundation Board of Trustees are working to integrate the Body of Knowledge mission and strategic plans into a consolidated strategy for the SMRP Foundation.
