Asset
Strategy
Presented by Meridium
September 16, 2010
Houston, TX
There is a trend in industry where planned
maintenance is performed with little question of why are
we performing these actions or what is the value or benefit
being realized by performing them. Historically this work
is done because "this is what we have always done",
"the manufacturer recommends it", or out of fear
based on high profile asset failures. Even worse, many organizations
have no strategies for maintaining their assets-in many
cases due to budget cuts or lack of time. This approach
may save money or energy in the short term, but results
in opening themselves up to large amounts of unknown health,
safety, environmental, or financial risks. Comparisons and
contrasts will be used in the class to show how to apply
a proven approach to asset strategy development, management,
and optimization. The workshop will not only look at how
strategies are developed based on work history, manufacturer
recommendations, asset function, and failure modes, but
also if they add value based on investment and risk mitigation.
The outcome of the workshop will be the understanding of
how strategic asset management will drive organizations
to understand why they perform scheduled maintenance and
the risk being assumed if the work is deferred.
